Diversity Statement

My mission is to foster an inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds. Science is a foundational pursuit, and we walk on the path paved by those who came before us. It is my job as a scientist to lay that groundwork for future generations such that it is accessible to all who wish to tread it.

IAGD Involvement

One of my personal goals is to help create equity in the geosciences by pushing for field camp alternatives at universities. I would like to help mitigate the barriers that exclude students and young professionals from joining the geosciences due to permanent or temporary disability.

I have recently begun work with the International Association for Geoscience Diversity (IAGD), where I was selected to be the executive chair of the student community. Through this position, I communicate with students outside of and manage student ambassadors within the nonprofit organization. I am also responsible for managing the Pathways scholarship opportunity (more info about that can be found here).

I am working to implement accessible field camp alternatives for students who are unable to complete a traditional geology degree. The IAGD also develops disability-friendly field trips and works with the University of Florida's GeoSPACE program, which you can learn more about here and here. By working with the IAGD, I hope to give students in all circumstances the opportunity to pursue a career in the geosciences.
